The star has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the UK's small music venues.

The star was given the cheque on 16 October as his latest record the album was chosen as the top album of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in recognition of the crucial part small stages played in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous small stages across the UK.

The donation helped locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that funds from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor winnings to worthy causes.

When Pulp earned the prize in the mid-90s for their album Different Class, vocalist the singer stated that the group would donate their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, musician she split her award between multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," the artist explained to outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the community center that developed their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Winning was ample," said artist the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success affected another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved several grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in Southampton and the other in Bristol were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
